October Highlights: A Month of Learning, Celebration, and Development at ICS Khalifa Branch

October was a month of creativity, collaboration, and achievement at International Community Schools – Khalifa City, reflecting the school’s commitment to fostering academic excellence, holistic development, and a strong sense of community. Across all phases, students, teachers, and parents came together in a spirit of enthusiasm and engagement, making learning both meaningful and memorable.

Throughout the month, classrooms were alive with inquiry and curiosity. Students took part in academic competitions such as the Spelling Bee, Math, Science, and Mental Math challenges — all designed to build confidence, critical thinking, and a love of learning. Events like Space Week ignited imagination as students explored planets, astronauts, and the wonders of technology through creative projects and interactive lessons.

Learning extended well beyond the classroom, as the school community embraced a variety of celebrations and initiatives. From World Heart Day, World Mental Health Day, and World Food Day to Think Pink and Smile Day, students learned the values of empathy, kindness, and social awareness. Fun-filled events such as Crazy Socks Day and Teacher’s Day brought smiles and appreciation, while sports competitions and PE Fun Days with parents strengthened teamwork and physical well-being.

October also marked the successful launch of after-school clubs, offering diverse opportunities in Reading, Quran Recitation, Cooking, Robotics, and more — nurturing student interests and talents while reinforcing the joy of discovery. The month was further enriched by exciting experiences such as the MILSET Expo trip, the Kallman Worldwide Aviation Program, and senior student activities including the Paint-a-Bear project, Seniors’ Breakfast, and Movie Day — all contributing to a vibrant culture of leadership and school spirit.

Behind the scenes, staff members continued to strengthen teaching and learning through professional development sessions focused on digital integration, effective questioning, and inclusive practices. Teachers engaged in professional learning communities to share strategies that enhance engagement, collaboration, and creativity in the classroom. Policy updates, curriculum reviews, and refined weekly communication plans ensured that families remain informed and connected to their children’s learning journeys.

At ICS Khalifa City, we ensure that our assessment practices are both rigorous and responsive by triangulating MAP testing data, ABT benchmarks, and internal assessment results to build a holistic picture of student progress. This triangulation is further strengthened by aligning our School Development Plan (SDP) goals with assessment outcomes, ensuring that all data collected is valid, purposeful, and directly informs instructional planning. To support this, we conducted targeted professional development for all faculty on data-driven instruction and the strategic use of formative, summative, and ongoing assessments. We also led a school-wide PD focused on integrating essential learning skills such as critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and communication into curriculum mapping, in line with ADEK and Irtiqa’a recommendations.

In preparation for the PIRLS assessment, we hosted an orientation session for Grade 4 parents and ensured that our English curriculum and assessments are fully aligned with ADEK’s PIRLS framework.

Additionally, we held an AP induction session for secondary parents to introduce the full suite of AP courses offered and to explain how our curriculum and assessment strategies are designed to meet the demands of each AP subject.

The Inclusion Department played a pivotal role in ensuring that every student receives the support they need to succeed. Updated IEPs and learning plans, early screenings, and continuous collaboration with teachers have strengthened the foundation of inclusive education at ICS Khalifa City. Professional development in areas such as behavior for learning, additional learning needs, and safeguarding reinforced the school’s commitment to equity and student well-being.

The achievements of October stand as a testament to the dedication of the entire ICS Khalifa City community — teachers, students, parents, and staff — working together toward the shared vision of nurturing confident, compassionate, and capable learners.

As the school continues to grow and innovate, it remains deeply committed to fostering a culture where excellence, inclusion, and community spirit shine through every success story.
